It is Tehsil headquarters of Kurram Agency. Kurram Valley is divided into three tehsils. The Alizai Tehsil boundaries start from Sakhi Ahmadshah in northwest to Chapri at the bottom of Kurram. It is considered a peaceful place in the Kurram Agency although some civil unrest took place recently.
